The area provides many trails for hiking, biking, and ATVing, and wildlife sightings are a regular occurrence. There are eleven maintained hiking trails within the Downeast Lakes Community Forest. The cabins are located within walking distance of a tennis and basketball court, a baseball field, and a country store that has food, gifts, etc. The Grand Lake Stream fish hatchery rears landlocked salmon and brook trout, and is open to site visits by appointment (207-796-5580). There is a walkway next to Canal Street, and the canal there is stocked with brook trout for children’s fishing only (under 16 years of age). The Grand Lake Stream Historic Museum is open on Sundays from 1-3 PM during the summer (Memorial Day to Labor Day) or by appointment (207-796-2014). In July, the town hosts the Folk Art’s Festival. Overall, this area provides thousands of acres of woods and water to explore!
